Do I need to be an Accountant to run a home business?
NO! It certainly helps, but you don't have to have any experience at all, you will just have to depend on others for some tasks, such as your tax return preparation, and depending on how you keep your "books", a bookkeeper might be in order as well. See below for some fairly inexpensive bookkeeping software packages. I have done the bookkeeping for a number of individuals that either did not know or want to know how to do the bookkeeping for a business. They wanted to spend their time on doing what they did best, sell their product, or perform the service so that the business would grow. Some business owners were able to do all the necessary bookkeeping activities with just a small amount of consulting from me. This can be the case with you as well. I'm sure, no matter where you are located, you will have a bookkeeper available to help you get started. Keep in mind that if you sign up as an AMSOIL dealer through me, I will help you out with all of the Start-Up business matters and provide you with as much information as necessary, all free of charge!
Is AMSOIL a legitimate business?
Most certainly YES! AMSOIL has been around since 1972! The company would not be around this long if it wasn't legitimate. At the very start, President and CEO of AMSOIL, Inc, A.J. Amatuzio decided to use MLM (Multi-Level-Marketing) as the preferred distribution method for his products. This is not a pyramid scheme, it's a professional business opportunity that provides financial results to those that work hard.
Can I operate this business with my spouse?
Most definitely you may; actually the most successful AMSOIL dealers are husband and wife owners. While some couples have the male selling AMSOIL products and the wife selling Altrum products, both can sell either product line with the same profitable results. Obviously you don't have to be married to sell AMSOIL, or have a home based business; it just has some benefits. I met many dealers while I attended AMSOIL's 35th Anniversary Convention last summer. Many dealers were couples, some married and the spouse didn't partake at all in the business - which is fine. Other dealers were single, some male, some female, some old and some young. It's a beautiful thing, with the great quality AMSOIL product line there is no end to the target customers available. Even after 35 years, we AMSOIL dealers have only scratched the surface of selling to the public!
Do I have to quit my job to become a dealer?
I wouldn't! Not to say that some day your AMSOIL business will be large enough for you to quit your day job, you must remain realistic in your business ventures. Please do not sign up as an AMSOIL dealer with me if you feel within X weeks, months, or even years you will be living the high life, working for yourself and selling a little oil here and there. AMSOIL's program is an excellent program to supplement your current job, or in my case jobs. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of AMSOIL dealers out there that don't have another job, but most are either retired and have other supplemental income, or have been working their AMSOIL business day and night. Please prove me wrong and grow your business so that you can quit your job, but, please be realistic when starting out on this venture, or any venture. In my Business Start-up consulting, I have had the most unpleasant responsibility to tell new business owners that they are completely unrealistic in their expectations of how their business will grow. Most entrepreneurs are creative individuals, and sometimes loose the reality of the "profits and losses" of a company.
Why should I sign up with a dealer in Wisconsin when there may be other AMSOIL dealers closer to me?
Excellent question! Then again, I wrote it, ha - there's your first reason, I have a sense of humor. With the MLM design of AMSOIL, you can only sell their products when you sign up to do so through a "sponsor". Any current AMSOIL dealer can sponsor a new dealer; however not all AMSOIL dealers are the same. I am able to provide you with additional help that your average dealer may not be able to help you out with. Business start up, federal regulations, state taxing issues. Mostly however are bookkeeping matters. I have been in the Accounting field, in one way or the other, since 1978! I have been involved in my own family businesses, small firms to large firms where I supervised a staff of six accountants. It doesn't matter the size of the company, all companies - large or small have similar needs when it comes to bookkeeping, start up procedures and initial consultations.
I am not interested in doing your books, though my other "side job" is just that, doing the books for others who either don't know how to do them, or want to do them. What I like to do is to get you organized, hopefully get you off on the right foot, and set things up so that you will have at least one less thing to worry about. With all dealers that sign up under me, I provide you with a 23 page report titled: "Your AMSOIL Business". This report goes into detail about the first steps that are involved in starting up your AMSOIL (or any other) business. AMSOIL also has a Start-up guide that my own Direct Jobber told me about - after I wrote my own (that may have saved me a little time, but oh well).
How much time does having an AMSOIL Home Based Business take?
One of the truly great things about being an AMSOIL dealer is that you can put in as much or as little time as you want. During certain times of the year, I am too busy with other things. It may be year-end and my other job has me quite busy, or it may be the summer time and the few weekends that are nice I choose not to work. Whatever the reason, you put in as much or as little as you want. Now, having said that, you can't go into this business and expect great results by not working it. All I am saying is that this MLM model is one that you don't have to put tons of hours into it before you are up and running. You don't have to keep inventory, you don't have to spend thousands of dollars in start up costs. You can slowly get into the business, or hit it hard and hit the ground running. Summer time in Wisconsin lasts only a few days some years - if you are anywhere in the upper Midwest in the summer, you know what I am talking about. So I generally don't have the time in summer like I do in the winter months. Having said that, I find that June is one of my busiest months sales-wise for my AMSOIL business. Your only real deadline as far as bookkeeping goes in at year end. Please, if you do nothing else after reading this, don't let everything go till the end of December, it's too big of a project to get everything ready. You have till the day you file your taxes to have your actual financial statements completed, but other items such as sales tax reports (which may even be required on a monthly or quarterly basis). 1099's etc. will be due on January 31 of each year.
Who would be my customer?
You would be surprised as who the AMSOIL customer is. AMSOIL has so many great quality products that they truly do sell themselves. I love nothing better than when someone calls me up saying, "Hey, could I get a couple gallons of AMSOIL's HP"? There was a time that I didn't even know what HP is for! AMSOIL customers are intelligent folks that want the best for their machines. Whether that machine be a car, truck, boat, wave-runner, ATV or snow mobile, they want the best.
Your business is not limited to just selling to individuals however. As I stated in an earlier page, This Ain't your father's AMSOIL business any more. AMSOIL dealers are able to sell to retail stores for "off the shelf" sales, to commercial accounts such as Landscapers, to industrial corporations that can use a 55 gallon of compressor oil on a regular basis. We can also sell some of our products to Quick-Lube facilities! Everyone is your customer, and we have yet to scratch the surface is getting our product out there!
